Gilded Bronzes

Gilded_Bronzes_01.jpg

Gilded Bronzes. Late imperial roman coins.

These coins has been checked by various experts, Jean Elsen & Ses Fils and David R. Sear to quote the best known and according to their opinion they are gilded bronzes. The gilding is ancient, done for aesthetic purposes probably. They have been also tested with the Au Test Acid and according to the result they are gilded bronzes, very heavily to my opinion.

Reference about gilded bronzes, not only roman but also greek can be found from various auction catalogs, the last sold is from CNG, September 2009, normal issue bronze found heavily gilded, sold at 500$. Normal value 80$. Another type, medallion like, sold by ArtemideAste, XXVII Cat., at 15000 euro in december 2009, emp. Maximianus.
